The basics

What is a small loan?

A small loan is consumer credit for smaller amounts, repaid over a short-to-medium term. Loans of $2,000 or less repaid over 16 days to 2 years are known in law as small amount credit contracts (SACCs). They don't charge interest — the cost is made up of capped fees instead.

What they're for

Built for one-off, short-term costs

A small loan suits a specific, unexpected expense — not ongoing living costs or repaying other debts. If regular bills are the problem, the options further down this page may help more.

🔧

Car & home repairs

A mechanic's bill, a broken appliance or an urgent fix that can't wait.

🐾

Vet & medical bills

Unexpected costs for your pet, or a dental or medical gap payment.

📄

An unexpected bill

A larger-than-usual utility, phone or essential household expense.

No interest — just clear fees

The cost of a small loan

For a small amount credit contract the law caps what any lender can charge, and no interest applies. Here's the most you can be charged — we charge [your actual fees, which may be lower]:

  • 20%

    Establishment fee

A one-off fee, capped by law at 20% of the amount you borrow. We charge [INSERT ESTABLISHMENT FEE].

  • 4%

    Monthly fee

Capped by law at 4% of the amount borrowed, per month. We charge [INSERT MONTHLY FEE].

  • $0

    Interest

Small amount credit contracts don't charge interest, so an Annual Percentage Rate (APR) doesn't apply.

A worked example

Replace this with a real, accurate example based on your fees before publishing.

Borrow $[1,000] over [6 months]: establishment fee $[XXX] + monthly fees $[XXX] = total repayable $[X,XXX], or $[XX] per fortnight.

Terms, conditions, fees and charges apply and are subject to change. All applications are subject to our credit assessment and approval criteria.

Frequently asked questions

[Explain your actual process accurately — for example whether and how you conduct a credit check. Do not claim "no credit checks", as this conflicts with responsible lending obligations.]

[State your genuine, typical timeframe with any conditions, e.g. dependent on your bank's processing times. Avoid absolute promises like "instant" unless they are always true.]

[State your policy — many lenders allow early repayment. Confirm whether any extra fees apply.]
